Disqus
Blogging is really about creating discussion, but the commenting system that comes built into most blogs is still rather basic and rudimentary. Disqus promises a better solution. They introduce an advanced commenting system that can be added to any article or page, as well as a separately hosted forum. Public testing to launch soon.

Nice idea, but there’s no way in hell I’m giving a 3rd party my community’s comments.  What happens when that company goes belly up?  What if they decide to cut off my account, or have outages?  I can’t control any of that.  No way.

If they would have put the comments into my database and then synchronized it, I would have loved it.  But as it stands, not a chance.

nate - Daniel from Disqus here.

Publisher control is a top priority. You will be able to migrate comments back and forth. Plugins for self-hosted blogs have full control in many other regards, as well.
