Interesting. But I see it as a variant of del.icio.us, since del.icio.us provides RSS feeds for your bookmarks.
It’s del.icio.us - tagging + bookmarklet to add all links within a page + no account creation.
That’s a really cool idea and it’s very easy to use.
A significant issue is that anyone can add items to anybody’s feed. If there’s was some kind of authentication mechanism I’d love this thing.
Are there any similar services like this one?
@kaushik - I totally agree.
@jase - I can see the dilemma in that, thats why I suggest xFruits which has a variety of options when it comes to creating feeds.
Hello,
I am the developer of FeedMarklet. Thanks for your comments.
I agree that there is some similarity with other social bookmarking services like delicious, furl, netvouz and many more. I made FeedMarklet with the intention of using it regularly, so in a way its what those other services would be like if they were exactly tailored to my needs. In particular, I have tried to make really fast and simple to use.
Its not exactly the same, but you can put tags or keywords in the description or title for the news items. As far as searching through a feed with a large number of items, this will produce more or less the same result as tags (minus a tag cloud).
I agree with the comments about account creation being an issue, and I think I have a way to do it that won’t make the site any less efficient for users who don’t want it.. its just a matter of time.
I haven’t used xfruits much, but from the graphics on the front page, it looks like it has a lot of useful capabilities, but not the same capabilities as FeedMarklet. i.e. it can combine feeds, or do things with an existing feed, but not create completely new feeds. Thus it would seem that FeedMarklet and xFruits are great companions- there are probably lots of crazy things that can be done by feeding FeedMarklet feed into xFruits (or Yahoo pipes, but thats another matter ; ). If I’m mistaken about xFruits not having the same ‘bookmarklet -> rss feed’ capability, please let me know.

I absolutely love it! I remember trying to find something to make feeds with and having to paste item name item description, etc., stuff like that but this is awesome. not having to make an account is awesome (personally, I hate making accounts and having some password that I set FF to remember and eventually I’m not able to log on on a different account or another computer cause I’ve never actually used the password).
but with feedmarklet I could just drag the bookmarklet to bookmarks toolbar on somebody’s elses computer use it and then just delete.
OK, but the option to contribute to somebody else’s bookmark feed’s a major drawback to the anonymity - I wouldn’t want “naked girls!!!” items on the feedmarklet-made feed of my orchid growing googlepages site, for instance. some restrictions would be useful idk at least restricting URLs to a single doamin for a specific feed that would pretty much solve the problem without introducing authentication.
