Today is Blog Action Day. Today, bloggers all around the world will call attention to issues concerning the environment. Thousands of unique voices will be discussing these issues in thousands of unique ways. In typical eHub fashion, we’re going to look at saving the environment Web 2.0 style.

To celebrate Blog Action Day, we’ve sifted through the vast eHub archives and pulled out a handful of sites and applications that can make a positive impact on our world and help save the planet Web 2.0-style!

MakeMeSustainable: an online community of individuals, groups and local businesses dedicated to environmental change. The site offers a comprehensive tool set for managing carbon and energy consumption, including advanced social networking capabilities for tracking and sharing experiences in real time.

Plant a Tree With Tree Nation
Tree Nation: fighting climate change with 8 million trees and a social community(you). Help plant 8 million trees in Africa in the shape of a huge heart to fight climate change and poverty. Using the map you can buy trees for yourself or offer to send one to someone you love. Plant a tree on a virtual map and a real tree will be planted in the same place in the real world.

Rally to Tell the U.S. Government to Step It Up
Step It Up: rally together with other citizens to tell the U.S. government to cut carbon emissions by 80% by 2050.  November 3rd is National Day of Climate Action. Organize and mobilize to make a difference.

Have Fun with Your Kids Creating an Environmentally Friendly Home With My Abodo
(This is a really great site. I totally admit that I spent at least a solid hour on this site before writing it up, even though there was no kids around besides me!)

My Abodo: this Flash-based site is aimed at kids, but it teaches both kids and adults about what it takes to create an environmentally friendly homes by allowing you to create one yourself. (With your kids, of course!) By selecting and customizing components of the home, you learn about the environmental impact of each choice. The site allows you to view houses created by others as well. The Tools section is presumably more aimed at adults. It offers relevant news items, project guides, and a project planner.

Be a Vegetarian With Gone Raw
Gone Raw: a social recipe sharing website to help people find, compare, and enjoy raw (and vegan) food recipes from around the world.

Empower an Entrepreneur in a Developing Country With Kiva
Kiva: lets you connect with and loan money to unique small businesses in the developing world. You can “sponsor a business” and microfinance a loan directly to an individual.

And Last, But Not Least, You Can Help Save the North Shore
Save the North Shore: a volunteer, non-profit website devoted to preserving the environment and culture of the North Shore, O’ahu, and raising awareness about the proposed hotel expansion plans. (Disclosure: This is a personal project of eHub Founder, Emily Chang)
