Blog Action Day 08: Focus on Poverty
Today is
Blog Action Day, a day in which over 11,000 bloggers and sites around the world publish, donate or promote awareness to the issues of poverty (
earlier post at eHub). Blog Action Day originally began when a college student named Shawn wanted to see if he could make a personal difference in the world. He left college, liquidated his savings, and decided to travel abroad to Bangladesh,
chronicling and sharing his story online. Shawn's story is just one example of the myriad ways for one person to make a difference. So, what can you do today? You could help other entrepreneurs in the developing work with a
micro-loan through Kiva,
donate to the Global Fund, a nonprofit combating AIDS and other diseases that effect poverty, listen and take part in the
BlogTalkRadio 12-Hour Talkathon, or get educated on the
facts and causes of global poverty so you can help spread the word.

We'll post a selection of one hundred ideas and ask you, the public, to choose twenty semi-finalists. Then an advisory board will select up to five final ideas. 3. We'll help bring these ideas to life. We're committing $10 million to implement these projects, and our goal is to help as many people as possible.
